Winter Fare

When it's cold and the days are dark, don't you just want curry? Not just any curry, but one with about an entire Kabocha squash (the king of squashes) and a luscious pumpkin coconut sauce. Over at Pinto they have such a dish. Don't forget the hearty chunks of tofu and that white on rice and everything is so fresh you can taste it.
Pinto (Thai): 447 7th Ave/15th Street
This apple pie is just bursting at it's seams. It was heavenly and made w/ the flaky famed olive oil crust method, my mom was right too-it is fun to make a pie together.
So this little veggie burger is not very photogenic, but can you believe it is a black bean and red pepper inside of a falafel burger? There are more of these special burgers at City Bakery and the pop-up in Books of Wonder.

More Kabocha curry, this time at Am Thai on Church Avenue. Now Church has a nice little bistro where you can go and warm up over curry.

I'm all for eating local and in-season, but there is only so much spaghetti squash a girl can take. You can practically feel the heat coming off this mango. It's fate lies in a pandowdy, crossing over into North American winter fare.
